About

Blog – Stacked

Story telling has been a shared activity since men first parked themselves around a campfire to eat and describe the hunt (and then paint the walls!).  Homer spoke the beautiful descriptions of the gods and troubadours sang the graces of ladies and courage of heroes.  Salons sent philosophers bickering and debating over the latest published essay and book clubs can be found in the biggest cities and smallest towns.

The goal of Stacked is to inspire you to read, to find the joy in books.  And beyond that, to use books as in inspiration to creating a rich and full life.  What we share is not the plot but rather the experience of a book.  Whenever possible, we’ll let you know what a book has lead us to try and suggestion things you can do to create a richer experience of your own.

Besides sharing what we’re reading, Stacked regulars and guest posters talk about all things bookish, from art exhibits and movie adaptations to literacy and community building.  We love our libraries and independent booksellers for all they do to spread the love of reading and make stories accessible. Most of our links will bring you to Indiebound.org where you can find out what local independent booksellers near you have the book in stock or can order if for you.

Christina has a life long love of reading anything she can get her hands on and often finds inspiration to try new things based on the books she is reading.

She’s up for just about anything and has been known to show up in random classes around the city just because they sounded “interesting” such as learning to paint with watercolors, checking out the New York Burlesque Festival, visiting the New York Planetarium, and swing dancing in the subways to busking bands.

You can read more by Christina at Amnesia of the Future where she is chronicling her experience watching Star Trek for the first time.

Angela Veronica Wong’s fashion theme for Winter 2009 is “pop punk grad student.”  She is the author of two chapbooks, to know this on Cy Gist Press and All the Little Red Girls on Flying Guillotine Press.  She has poems and essays published in Barrow Street, Court Green, Denver Quarterly, EOAGH, amongst other journals.  She dances way too much, writes way too little, and reads six books at a time for no good reason.  She is currently working on a YA novel and a picture book.  Feel free to give her a book deal or visit her at http://smartstuff.blogspot.com

Marcelo lives in Burbank, California, where he works as a sound editor at Universal Studios. When he’s not working Marcelo enjoys exploring Los Angeles, trolling the Hollywood Farmer’s Market, and (of course) reading.

Marcelo’s journey through books began like most book lovers: childhood addiction. But a long drought of reading that lasted through college and into his mid 20’s curbed his book passions. It wasn’t until his best friend dared him to read Ulysses with her that he became hooked all over again.

A self-identified info-hippie and free culture enthusiast, Marcelo’s favorite library is the Burbank Public library within walking distance from his house. He is currently putting the finishing touches on his first novel, which will probably never be published because it isn’t Ulysses.

Stacked would not exist without an awesome staff to keep things running:

Jamie Dowers: Copy-Editor
Marcelo Teson: Contributing Reviewer
Veronica Wong: Contributing Reviewer (YA)

And special thanks to the unicorns for just being all around cool and glittery. We’re big fans of Charlie the Unicorn and suggest you follow his adventures here, here, and here.
