Stacked Stacks – Jamie
30th July, 2009 6 Comments
Welcome to the first Stacked Stacks! Every Thursday we’ll be featuring a different photo showing you how people are organizing their own stacks of books.
Our inaugural photo comes from the Stacked Copy-Editor, Jamie. She’s in the process of moving to Chicago right now, so this photo is a last minute shot of her Boston apartment.
The Boston apartment was a small studio decorated in French Country style. With limited space, she utilized the old, boarded up fireplace for shelving.
What I love about Jamie’s set-up is how she integrates other objects with the books. The old mantle is at eye level and its narrow depth makes a great display shelf. As an editor and aspiring writer she keeps her journals and other writing supplies all together with industry related books. The knitting sharing the middle shelf with her books still to be read adds a nice homey and warm feel to the whole look.
Finally, on the bottom shelf is reference, travel guides, and cookbooks. The shelves are located right next to the tiny kitchenette that takes up one wall of the apartment and make for easy access while cooking up dinner with fiancé Kurt.

Adorable! I’ve seen stuff like this in catalogues and have wanted to do it but we actually use our fireplace. A little too Farenheight 451 to store them there!

What a clever idea to use a fireplace as book storage! Love it

I’ll take regular shelves any day. In the fireplace it looks sort of set-up for this photo. Does she really keep her books there and does it normally look so neat ant orderly or was it arranged just for a nice photo?

Jen – We’ll find out when she’s done moving (on the road again!) – they might be that or cooking mags.
Mike – definitely not pre-arranged. I didn’t tell her I planned to take the photo until I was taking it – she’s just that neat and cutely organized!
Previously there was a TV in the fireplace. Not sure why she decided to get rid of that, but the books look nice. She had another collection of books in the closet too – not as pretty for a photo!
